5-14/5-15-2010 Winterfield Venture Academy, Toledo OH.
Claire's Day Maumee, OH |
 |
 |
|
It was incredibly
awesome to be invited back to such a spectacular event as Claire's
Day! For starters we were thrilled to be able to bring Mick
along! We started out with a wonderful visit to Winterfield Academy
- thanks so much for having us. Then it was onto Claire's
Night, where we got the pleasure of spending a delightful time with
such luminaries as, the one and only Julie Rubini – the founder of
this fantastic event (and an author, too), along with her wonderful
husband Brad. Not to mention all of the fantastic Claire's Day
people, and a who's-who list of authors and illustrators such as,
Will Clay, Shutta Crum and Diana Magnuson and more. Even Chrys
Peterson, the evening anchor from WTOL Channel 11 (thanks for your
kind words!). The next day was Claire's Day, a busy, fun-filled
literary event in honor of Claire. From readings and signings, to
teaching improvisation in the Teen Café, it was one busy, exciting
day! So, a special thanks to Julie, and to all of the other
wonderful Claire's Day people, Jan, Cindy, etc… and to the wonderful
gal's who mc'd an introduction for us, and a very special thank you
to our handler Leslee – you are a delight!

Each school that we visit is different, and if there is one thing
that we have learned is that if the principal is involved and happy,
then the teachers and students are the same. We had the opportunity
to meet such a group at Crull Elementary - where we met the most
lovely principal Ms. Barr. You truly lead and inspire, and your
teachers are so wonderful, too! Thanks for making us feel so
welcome! |
 |
 |
|
t was a pleasure to share our improvisation and ideas on literacy
at the wonderful dinner event for St. Clair RESA! What a fun group -

 |
 |
|

met some fabulous Young Authors and Illustrators! Keep up the great
work - you guys are going places! |
 |
 |
|
It was a great time at Madison Elementary. We had a super nice
audience and that makes the day even more
fun! |
 |
 |
|
As reading month winds down, we had a wonderful visit with our
friends in Holly! Thanks for having us! |
 |
 |
|
Had a great time at Bartlett! Thanks so much for having
us. |

Nothing in the world can take the place of art! It doesn't matter
what form it is, whether writing, drawing, painting, sculpting,
acting, singing, dancing, playing music, the arts add so much to our
lives. So, we were thrilled to teach a class in improvisation at
Scranton Middle School. There are definitely some talented
performers there! |
 |
 |
|
It was again an honor to present at the Michigan Reading
Association! This was their 54th Annual Conference, Weaving a
Tapestry of Readers and Writers. We had a great time, and were
honored to share with such wonderful teachers, administrators, media
specialists and others who attended the conference. Thanks for
caring so much about literacy MRA! |

This past week was a blast! We met so many people, and made so
many new friends. We started out at Ojibwa and Cheyenne on
Wednesday, March 3rd. Talk about wonderful, kind, welcoming people!
both schools made us feel right at home! On Tuesday we headed over
to Shawnee, and Sequoya, where once again, the students and staff
were great! On Friday, it was off to Miami Elementary - okay, these
kids were exceptional! And the Teachers, Media Specialist and
Principal were so wonderful to us. A great big thank you to Craig
Bulgrin for all that he's done! After that it was off to Erie
- thanks for having us Erie. |

kids. A big special thank you to Holly Engemann for having
us! |

Three booksignings in one day can be pretty
exhausting...except when you visit special people like Sandy, Steve
& Gloria at Michigan Made in Plymouth. It's been so fun spending
time with you through the years and we are so sad to see you
go! Next it was onto visit our wonderful friends at Borders in
Canton - thank you so much Naidee for everything, and Carrie, and
the rest of your fantastic staff (Gordon, too!). We wrapped up
our holiday visits at one of our favorite spots, Borders in Novi -
Pauline you are just a delight, as is everyone that works there -
thanks so much! |

12-5-09 Barnes & Noble, Woodland and Rivertown malls,
Grand Rapids |
|
|
|
It was just a delight visiting the new Barnes
& Noble at the Woodland Mall in Grand Rapids! We had so
much fun meeting new people! Taryn, the Community Relations Manager,
should give a course on how to have a super successful signing by
making your author and illustrator feel really welcome - it just
added to the success of the day! Thanks so much Taryn and the rest
of the wonderful Barnes & Noble staff! It was a busy day in
the Grand Rapids area as we were then off to Grandville to visit
lovely Linda - who is another one of the nicest CRM's. Thanks
so much Linda for having us back to your wonderful
store! |

writing and art message, and also helping you incorporate the improv
games as creative teaching tools. Thanks for having
us! |

What a great time in Muskegon today! And, as you can see,
'Mick Morris Myth Solver #5 Abominable Snowman...A Frozen

great folks at the Barnes & Noble in Muskegon! Thanks to
Amber for everything, and a big thank you to all of you who came out
to our demonstrations today! Nice meeting you!

Claire's night was an evening to remember. It was great to mingle
with all of the wonderful fundraisers for Claire's Day as well as
some of the most interesting and well known authors and
illustrators. And, if you have never been to the downtown Toledo
Library-we really recommend you go, and head right to the children's
section-totally cool and one of a kind! |

We were proud to once again visit our friends at Novi
Meadow...but this time it was for a very special young man,
Nicholas. He was the winner of our "I Met a Myth" contest! We
presented him with a totally cool gift basket, a set of books for
him and his school, and a Mick Morris Myth Solver Poster for each of
his fellow students. Thanks Dr. Ellis, but with you at the helm, how
could these students not be creative? |
