8-14/8-15-2010 Mackinac Island and Mackinaw City

Mackinac Island is truly one of our favorite places!  We love everything about that spectacular place, especially the Island Bookstore.  A big thank you to Tamora for having us, and to Scott, Jill and Jeremy, too. It was also great meeting new friends.  Then, we were lucky enough to be able to visit the wonderful bookstore in Mackinac City - thanks for having us.  You can also find Mick Morris Myth Solver on the shelves of True North.  Can't wait to visit again next year!

What a pleasure it was visiting the West Bloomfield Public Library!  Thanks so much for having us!  A good time was had by all...even the moms joined in to do a little sketching!

8-7-2010 Rockford Reading Fest, Rockford MI

It was great to be back at the Rockford Reading Festival! We met a lot of great new friends, as you can see...and there were even some fun characters. The fantastic town of Rockford, and the Rockford Rotary does a great job of promoting reading and it's importance for all ages. A big thank you to all involved!

5-14/5-15-2010 Winterfield Venture Academy, Toledo OH. Claire's Day Maumee, OH

It was incredibly awesome to be invited back to such a spectacular event as Claire's Day!  For starters we were thrilled to be able to bring Mick along! We started out with a wonderful visit to Winterfield Academy - thanks so much for having us.  Then it was onto Claire's Night, where we got the pleasure of spending a delightful time with such luminaries as, the one and only Julie Rubini – the founder of this fantastic event (and an author, too), along with her wonderful husband Brad. Not to mention all of the fantastic Claire's Day people, and a who's-who list of authors and illustrators such as, Will Clay, Shutta Crum and Diana Magnuson and more. Even Chrys Peterson, the evening anchor from WTOL Channel 11 (thanks for your kind words!). The next day was Claire's Day, a busy, fun-filled literary event in honor of Claire. From readings and signings, to teaching improvisation in the Teen Café, it was one busy, exciting day! So, a special thanks to Julie, and to all of the other wonderful Claire's Day people, Jan, Cindy, etc… and to the wonderful gal's who mc'd an introduction for us, and a very special thank you to our handler Leslee – you are a delight!

Kent City was lots of fun, as we got to spend time with our new friends at Kent City Elementary! This time we even got a chance to bring Mick along! A special thanks to Ms. Lerch for having us - you guys are wonderful!

There is nothing more inspiring than to meet a delightful group of young authors, and we had the opportunity to do just that in Port Huron this past weekend. We enjoyed each and every one of you. Follow your hearts and write on!

Each school that we visit is different, and if there is one thing that we have learned is that if the principal is involved and happy, then the teachers and students are the same. We had the opportunity to meet such a group at Crull Elementary - where we met the most lovely principal Ms. Barr. You truly lead and inspire, and your teachers are so wonderful, too! Thanks for making us feel so welcome!

Nothing in the world can take the place of art! It doesn't matter what form it is, whether writing, drawing, painting, sculpting, acting, singing, dancing, playing music, the arts add so much to our lives. So, we were thrilled to teach a class in improvisation at Scranton Middle School. There are definitely some talented performers there!

It was again an honor to present at the Michigan Reading Association! This was their 54th Annual Conference, Weaving a Tapestry of Readers and Writers. We had a great time, and were honored to share with such wonderful teachers, administrators, media specialists and others who attended the conference. Thanks for caring so much about literacy MRA!

3-10-2010 Macomb Township Author and Illustrator in residence week 2

We started out Wednesday visiting the Clinton Valley and Cherokee Elementary schools; what a great bunch of students, and such gracious media specialists. In fact, at Clinton Valley, we were wowed by the awesome Abominable door decoration (more pics at Your Sketches) - thanks so much! On Thursday we had so much fun at Fox! It was there, that lovely Ms. Ida presented us with a spectacular gift basket from all of the schools. It was such a nice surprise and a big thank you to everyone for it. Then we were off to Mohawk - thanks for having us. On Friday, it was another delightful day at Ottawa - with super nice behaved students, and the most welcoming people. After that we headed to Huron - as we wrapped up two weeks in Macomb. It was wonderful meeting everyone, thanks so much!

3-3-2010 Macomb

This past week was a blast! We met so many people, and made so many new friends. We started out at Ojibwa and Cheyenne on Wednesday, March 3rd. Talk about wonderful, kind, welcoming people! both schools made us feel right at home! On Tuesday we headed over to Shawnee, and Sequoya, where once again, the students and staff were great! On Friday, it was off to Miami Elementary - okay, these kids were exceptional! And the Teachers, Media Specialist and Principal were so wonderful to us. A great big thank you to Craig Bulgrin for all that he's done!  After that it was off to Erie - thanks for having us Erie.

It was so nice visiting one of our favorite Barnes & Noble in Northville this past week to talk to teachers about our program on Laughter & Literacy. Thanks so much to Betsy (and all the wonderful staff) for having us and making our visit so enjoyable!

It was so wonderful visiting Our Lady of Fatima in Michigan Center last Friday. What a fantastic group of super polite, nice kids. A big special thank you to Holly Engemann for having us!

12-19-09 Michigan Made in Plymouth, Borders Canton and Novi

Three booksignings in one day can be pretty exhausting...except when you visit special people like Sandy, Steve & Gloria at Michigan Made in Plymouth. It's been so fun spending time with you through the years and we are so sad to see you go!  Next it was onto visit our wonderful friends at Borders in Canton - thank you so much Naidee for everything, and Carrie, and the rest of your fantastic staff (Gordon, too!).  We wrapped up our holiday visits at one of our favorite spots, Borders in Novi - Pauline you are just a delight, as is everyone that works there - thanks so much!

12-18-09 Hawkins and Hilton 3rd and 4th Graders, Brighton MI

    Wow! December was a busy month for us and a great one meeting tons of new friends!  We were lucky enough to present to the 3rd & 4th graders of Hawkins and Hilton Elementary.  Thanks so much for inviting us, and what a great group of kids!

12-12-09 / 12-13-09 Barnes & Noble, Saginaw and Green Oak, MI

A special thank you to Virginia and the staff at Barnes & Noble in Saginaw for having us - so nice to see you again. And then it was on to a special visit at the Barnes & Noble in Green Oak!  It was in support of the Scranton and Maltby bookfairs.  The members of the band from Scranton that played did an awesome job!  Big hugs to our lovely friends the Fenwicks, too!

12-5-09 Barnes & Noble, Woodland and Rivertown malls, Grand Rapids

 It was just a delight visiting the new Barnes & Noble at the Woodland Mall in Grand Rapids!  We had so much fun meeting new people! Taryn, the Community Relations Manager, should give a course on how to have a super successful signing by making your author and illustrator feel really welcome - it just added to the success of the day! Thanks so much Taryn and the rest of the wonderful Barnes & Noble staff!
It was a busy day in the Grand Rapids area as we were then off to Grandville to visit lovely Linda - who is another one of the nicest CRM's.  Thanks so much Linda for having us back to your wonderful store!

It was a great spending time with the creative 8th grade art students at Oak Valley Middle School.  What a great group of kids - keep up the good work, and thank you Cecilia!

12-3-09 Barnes & Noble, Allen Park. Dearborn Heights Montessori.

It was a fun night with the Dearborn Heights Montessori book fair! Everyone we met was so kind, and polite and there are definitely some wonderful writers and artists from that school. Thanks to Allen Park Barnes & Noble for having us!

I can't think of anything more fun than sharing what we do with teachers! We were thrilled to be a part of the St. Clair RESA Professional Development Day. It was wonderful sharing our reading, writing and art message, and also helping you incorporate the improv games as creative teaching tools. Thanks for having us!

It's always great to see two of our favorite Borders people, Crystal and Joan.  They are two people who are excellent at what they do, they really know how to take care of their local authors and illustrators and customers, too!  We love you guys. See you soon at Arborland!

Holiday shopping is happening! At least it was in on Saturday at Borders in Utica...and we are happy to say that Mick Morris Myth Solver and Ghost Board Posse is on quite a few lists! Not only that, we had lots of friends come by to say 'hi' and chat - which we love! A great big hug and thank to Mary, Pat, Elllen, Amy, Mark and every other wonderful person that works there - you guys are the best!

What a fantastic time we had at the first annual Rockford Rocks Reading Festival!  What a great town (with the world's best hot dogs)! It was nice to meet so many of you,  including the Mayor, dressed as a Star Bellied Sneech! Thanks to everyone involved!

There are few places as fun as Traverse City, especially during the Cherry Festival at Up North Kids Bookstore! Thanks for having us and thanks to all of our friends that stopped by.

5-16-09 Claire's Day, Maumee OH

Even if there was a bit of rain, you would never have known it at this event! It was the 8th Annual Claire's Day in Maumee and by the smiles on people's faces and fun that they were having there was total sunshine! One spectacular event in honor of Claire Rubini. A gi-normous thanks to Julie Rubini and congrats to her on her first and wonderful book - Hidden Ohio. Also, thanks to Brad Rubini, and every single other person that cares enough about reading and children to have donated all of their time and energy - this should be a National event!

5-15-09 Toledo Lucas County Public Library, Toledo OH

Claire's night was an evening to remember. It was great to mingle with all of the wonderful fundraisers for Claire's Day as well as some of the most interesting and well known authors and illustrators. And, if you have never been to the downtown Toledo Library-we really recommend you go, and head right to the children's section-totally cool and one of a kind!

5-15-09 Fort Miami Elementary, Maumee OH

There are great schools and then there are really super special schools...and this was one of them! Ft. Miami Elementary was probably one of the nicest places we have ever had the honor to present in...and a big reason for that is the very kind Principal Fertig and all of his lovely staff. Which of course means that kindness and wonderful manners are followed right down to the students, because it starts at the top! All we can say is thank you! (P.S. Lunch was super delicious too!)

5-14-09 Swanton Middle School, Swanton OH

Later in the the day found us at Swanton Middle School. What a cool old school. The place felt haunted when the auditorium doors started slamming over and over again...creepy! The students were great though, and thanks so much for all of your beautiful thank you cards!

We had a great time visiting Ohio schools! Our first stop was Park Elementary. What a great group of students, it was so nice meeting you! That was followed up by a delicious lunch and fun company at the Swanton Rotary (first time Edith & Archie ever joined them). A special thanks to Julie Storrer, Dental Health Associates, Swanton Rotary and of course Julie Rubini.

It was the perfect Saturday to spend in a bookstore, especially one of our favorite Barnes & Noble in Grandville, with their totally awesome CRM Linda...thanks so much for everything!

5-8-09 Novi Meadows "I Met A Myth" Contest Winner Nicholas Fadanelli

We were proud to once again visit our friends at Novi Meadow...but this time it was for a very special young man, Nicholas. He was the winner of our "I Met a Myth" contest! We presented him with a totally cool gift basket, a set of books for him and his school, and a Mick Morris Myth Solver Poster for each of his fellow students. Thanks Dr. Ellis, but with you at the helm, how could these students not be creative?
